A NEW shoppers' loyalty card is poised to give a major boost to Watton and its multi-national football team.

Watton International FC has devised an innovative way of bringing in badly needed funds while at the same time helping to give the town's High Street a major shot in the arm.

Everyone is being invited to join the club for the annual subscription fee of £10.

In exchange they will be given a discount card which gives them 10pc off at participating retailers in the town throughout the year.

More shops are also being invited to join the scheme.

Shoppers who sign up do not need to be any good at, or even interested in football, but can be assured that their cash will help give those who are the best chance of getting to the top.

Their money will also help bring together the various nationalities that now live in the area, with the team boasting players from Poland, Portugal and Brazil , as well as England, among its ranks.

Joe Barreto, president of Watton International, said the card presented the team and the town's shops with a win win situation and urged more businesses to join up. He said: “Everyone who joins up will be supporting the football team and the local economy and there is the potential for them to save lots of money.

“For instance Pizza Pluss has signed up. If the average pizza costs £10 and you buy one a week, even after the subscription fee you will be saving £42 a year.

“Norfolk Guitar and Bass Centre has also signed up.

“We want as many people and businesses as possible to sign up and help the football team and the town.”

Watton International was established several years ago by Watton based SIMPLE (Support and Integration for Migrants Promoting Legal Equality). It now boasts more than 50 enthusiastic footballers.
