Concerns that a fatal disease in dogs could have been found for the first time in Norfolk, appear to be unfounded according to a number of vets.

A post which has been widely shared on Facebook warns pet owners that a dog in Shipdham, near Dereham, has been put down after contracting the disease called Alabama rot - a condition never recorded in Norfolk.

However, according to a spokesperson for Anderson Moores Veterinary Specialists, who works with the nationwide vet group Vets4Pets and tracks the disease, the Shipdham case has not been confirmed and they do not know of any incidents in Norfolk.

A number of other vets in the area have also said that they have not encountered any cases of the disease.

This included Swaffham Veterinary Centre who wrote on Facebook: 'We have checked with the practice that the dog was supposed to have been seen at and they have confirmed they have not seen any cases of Alabama Rot.'
