Motorists will have to use diversions at night for the next eight days on the A47 on Swaffham bypass when maintenance work is carried out.

Work began last night and will continue for four nights and affects about four miles of the eastbound carriageway only between the Lynn Road exit slip and where the A47 passes over the A1065 9Castle Acre Road.

The 294,500 Swaffham highways agency scheme is being carried out between 8pm and 8am and small sections of the carriageway will be resurfaced and white lining repainted.

Work will also be carried out to replace joints on the bridge carrying the A47 over the Lynn Road exit slip. The work here continues nightly until Friday . The work will not be carried out on Saturday and Sunday and will start again on July 19.

When work is in progress the A47 eastbound dual carriageway will be closed from the Lynn Road exit slip to 500m east of the A1065.

Traffic will be diverted through Swaffham via Lynn Road, Lynn Street, Mangate Street and Norwich Road before rejoining the A47.

The entry and exit slip roads with the A1065 will also be closed and traffic will be diverted along Castle Acre Road and Station Street.

Engineers will then move to the A47/A1122 roundabout, with further resurfacing and repainting of white lines both around the roundabout on the A47 approaches.

This work will affect both carriageways - approximately 500m west of the roundabout and 350m east.

Again this part of the work will be carried out between 8pm and 6pm Tuesday, July 20 to Thursday, July 23.

The road will be closed while work is in progress with traffic travelling from King's Lynn diverted from the Hardwick Roundabout along the A10 and A134 to Mundford before taking the A1065 back to Swaffham. Motorists travelling from Swaffham will follow the same diversion in reverse.
