People living in Swaffham are being asked for their suggestions for the naming a new road in the town.

As the first show home on the former Bernard Matthews turkey hatchery opens its doors to the public this weekend builder Abel Homes wants to hear what locals wish the new road on the 51 house estate to be called.

The first phase of the Castle Acre Road site will be launched on Saturday and the development will eventually see a mix of two to five bedroom homes costing between 132,500 and 187,500.

There will also be 3.65 acres of open space on the site and the development's centrepiece will be a piece of art commissioned from a Norfolk artist.

Managing director of Abel Homes, Tony Abel, said: 'There is a real need for good quality, affordable family homes in Swaffham.

'Because we live and work in our local community we are able to understand the real housing needs and we believe that at The Hatchery we have come up with a really great new community which will be a joy to live in.'

Suggestions for the new road name could include anything from a local landmark to the name of a prominent local figure, however, roads cannot be named after people who are still alive.

The closing date for entries to the competition is July 18 and names will then be judged by a panel.

Before being adopted the chosen name must also be approve by both Swaffham Town Council and Breckland Council and Royal Mail.

Entries should be sent to Swaffham@abelhomes.co.uk or by post to Swaffham Street Naming, Abel Homes, The Old School, Little Cressingham. IP25 6NT.
