ONE of the region's oldest country shows returns this weekend with another line-up of traditional farming fun.

The Wayland Agricultural Show makes its 137th outing on Sunday, and thousands are expected to descend on The Meadows, on Brandon Road, Watton, when the gates open at 10am.

This year, organisers are promising new acts, and a new area, to accompany the livestock competitions and trade stands that first started the event in the late 19th century.

One troupe making their debut in the Grand Ring is equestrian act, Jive Pony.

Led by former Great British vaulting champion, Rebecca Townsend, the team will be performing their unique blend of riding stunts and west end theatrics for shows in the morning and the afternoon.

Elsewhere in the Grand Ring, dogs will be taking centre stage for a series of displays from talented pooches.

The Bob Hogg Sheepdog Show will showcase how well a man and dog can work together. Whilst the West Norfolk Foxhounds, the Trinity Foot Beagles, the Mid Norfolk Gundogs, and Cyril the Squirrel Racing Terriers, are other doggie performances not to be sniffed at.

Of course the show will also hold true to its well established farming events.

Livestock will go head to head in the categories of cattle, fur and feather, horses, pigs, sheep, and Shetland ponies. Rural businesses and craftsman will also be on hand with trade stands across the site.

But for the show goer looking for a break from the animal attractions, a new site will be available with performances and refreshments.

Launched especially for 2010, the Lifestyle Marquee promises an array of demonstrations that will transform any ordinary visitor into a domestic god or goddess.

Highlights include cookery demonstrations from Richmond Park, flower arranging with the Dutch Flower Parade, and fashion shows from Cherish Brides and Lifestyle Fashion.

All the events at the Wayland Agricultural Show are organised by the Wayland Agricultural Society who run a voluntary committee to arrange the event and other fund raising activities.

Organisers will continue to support local charities for the 137th show, and a new award is being introduced to celebrate young people working in the countryside.

The Wayland Agricultural Society Young Achiever of the Year will announced at the event to recognise the outstanding work young people perform in agriculture, horticulture, and wildlife industries.

Entry prices are: Adults 8, Children, aged five to 16, 3 (under fives go free), OAPs 6. A family ticket, two adults and two children, is 20.

Tickets are available from The Village Florist, Watton, before the show.
