PEOPLE enjoyed celebrating Portuguese culture at a special barbecue in Watton at the weekend.

Throughout June in Portugal people mark the Festas dos Santos Populares (Feast Days of the Popular Saints) with a whole host of festivities including parades, live music, parties and feasting.

And on Saturday in Watton people marked this important time in the Portuguese calendar with a barbecue where people could try a range of Portuguese food including caldo verde (a green soup), sardinhas and carapaus (Portuguese fish) with bread, and chourico assado (chorizo).

Tina Cruz, from Watton Family Support which organised the event, said nearly 100 people - a mix of Portuguese, British, Polish and Lithuanian people - came to the barbecue at The Surge.

She described it as an unforgettable day with wonderful weather, plenty of music, and people of many different nationalities enjoying themselves.

She said she wanted to thank everyone who helped to make the event such a success and that she hoped the event would be held again next year.
