A job fair launched to help former employees of a Norfolk joinery firm which went into administration last month has been hailed a success.

More than 70 people lost their jobs when JDS Plaswood in Watton was shut down by administration firm Kroll after it failed to find a buyer for the firm.

Plaswood produced shop interiors for Next, WH Smith and Woolworths.

Whilst it is understood that the Watton firm was profitable, its parent company, Oxfordshire-based JDS Group, was believed to be having cashflow problems.

Plaswood, based on Watton's Threxton Road Industrial Estate, had been making display equipment, counters and cash desks for retailers since 1948.

Breckland Council held a job fair at Queens Hall, in Watton, on Thursday and said it was a success, with more than 100 people attending.

It offered help for people on how to get jobs or set up their own businesses.

JobCentre Plus said it was overwhelmed with inquiries and

was able to point people towards

job vacancies and together with Bowes of Norfolk and Marketing Displays raised the hopes of a number of people seeking further employment.

Anyone who could not attend can call the Economic Development team on 01362 656235 and ask for Lindy Warmer or Ralph Burton.
