Paul Hunt has agreed to carry on as Swaffham team manager next season.

Hunt parted company with the Pedlars in September 2015 after five years in charge, but returned as U18 boss at the beginning of the season – and in July last year agreed to take over from Rob Taylor, who left without ever taking charge of a game.

A club statement said: 'Paul, in his second tenure, had a very difficult task initially, being left with only six registered players. Having built a team of youth and experienced players the luck seems to have been limited, but this now seems to have turned with some excellent results during the past few weeks.'

Swaffham are currently bottom of the Premier League and were beaten 4-2 at Brantham Athletic on Saturday, having been unbeaten in their previous four. The Pedlars' goals came from captain Alex Vincent and Joe Jackson.

It wasn't a good day for local sides, with only Thetford gaining a point from a 1-1 draw at Saffron Walden Town, Robbie Priddle scoring for the Brecklanders.

Gorleston went down 3-0 at Ipswich Wanderers – their fourth defeat in a row as their end of season form threatens to take the gloss off what has been a good campaign overall.

The defeat had no effect on league position with Gorleston still needing four points to make sure of a top-four finish.

Neighbours Great Yarmouth Town lost 2-1 at Ely City, with 16-year-old Tom Hunter scoring their goal and, if any proof were needed of their youth policy working, man of the match was 17-year-old Josh Ford.

Fakenham Town went down 2-1 at home to Stanway Rovers. Ashley Jarvis pulled a goal back for the Ghosts from the penalty spot but with only five minutes remaining it was too little, too late.

Kirkley & Pakefield were beaten 3-0 at Haverhill Rovers as their dismal away form continued – it was their eighth successive defeat on the road.

There were goals aplenty in the First Division: Diss Town were 4-1 home winners over Wisbech St Mary, King's Lynn Town beat Leiston 7-0, March Town United were 4-0 home winners over Dereham Reserves Town and Downham went down 5-4 at Whitton United.
