THE future of parking in Watton has been put under the spotlight at an open meeting.

About 30 people attended a meeting about the issue organised by Breckland Council at Watton Sports Centre on Monday, July 26.

The meeting gave people the chance to discuss proposals to improve parking in Watton put forward by Breckland's overview and scrutiny committee parking task and finish group.

People expressed concerns about the lack of enforcement of parking regulations on the high street and also the nearby roads of Harvey Street, North Road and West Road where there have been problems with people blocking driveways.

The need for better signage for the Queen's Hall car park was flagged up to encourage more people to use the car park, and people also discussed whether the car parks at Goddards Court and Thetford Road should be designated for short term parking only.

Residents also said they did not want to see parking charges introduced in the town.

All views expressed at the meeting will now be considered by the task and finish group and a final report with recommendations will be taken to the overview and scrutiny commission in the autumn.
