Uninvited door knocks from traders could become a thing of the past in four Swaffham streets after town councillors backed the introduction of no cold calling zones.

The town already has one zone, in Oakleigh Drive, where residents have declared they do not want to accept traders calling at their doors without an appointment, but police have been gauging support in four more areas.

Councillors supported new zones in Hilton Close, Suffield Court, Northwell Place and Spinners Close after hearing police have themselves knocked on doors to obtain the consent of local residents.

Officers said they would do the work on the ground to put the zones in place, and would hope to establish a local co-ordinator for each zone.

Norfolk County Council's website currently lists 93 no cold calling zones throughout the county.
