It may be that the Olympics fever which is now beginning to sweep over London is yet to reach out to the provinces, but a young musician in Norfolk is already preparing for the mammoth event in 2012.

Tim Gyton is best-known in Watton for his guitar and bass centre, a treasure trove for pop buffs like him.

But his fortunes are likely to change soon as the 30-year-old is tipped to become an acclaimed star if his band - Poppe & The Seeds - win a national competition to perform in the gigantic sports adventure.

If Tim and his five band mates are selected they will also make their first appearance at the coveted relay ceremony in August when Beijing, the host capital of this years' Olympics hands over the torch to London.

“We are very confident that we're going to win the competition,” said the owner of Norfolk Guitar and Bass Centre. “The song which is called Running seems to have impressed a lot of people and we've had a lot of support so far. We were faced with great competition from other bands but we've made it to the finals which is very encouraging,” he added.

The London-based band which includes four instrumentalists and a female singer decided to go for an audition after Ken Livingston, the Mayor of London launched a competition to find talented artists for the event.

The song impressed the judges who shortlisted it for the finals.

“We were lucky because the song is called Running and is very catchy. The judges clearly liked it and it is now on London's ITV local website where members of the public from all over the country are invited to vote for their favourite band or singer.”

Over the next few weeks the audience will have the difficult task to choose between finalists Poppe & The Seeds and singer and songwriter Nathalie Nahai.

The Mayor of London launched the Get Set London roadshow earlier in January to celebrate the beginning of the Olympics.

From choirs to dance troupes and from theatre groups to solo acts, everyone was welcome to audition to take part in the celebrations which will kick in when the Olympic flag is handed to the capital from Beijing.
