The new landlords of a village pub are hoping to encourage families to return to their local.

Jo Clarke and her fiancé Jay Lewis have taken over the Flying Fish in Carbrooke, near Watton.

Mr Lewis has been a chef for 25 years and the pair have been involved with restaurants but this is their first pub.

Mrs Clarke said: 'I moved 300 miles to be here,' said Mrs Clarke. 'We we up in Yorkshire before and the company who we work for said we were going to get a pub near York and then they said they had a pub coming up in Norfolk if we fancied it.'

She added: 'It is very quiet at the moment but it is after Christmas.'

The kitchen is set to open at the end of February.

Homemade burgers, chips and pies will be served and Mrs Clarke said they are keen to put on specialist evenings including Tapas, Indian and Chinese.

The pub has an open log fire and is dog friendly.

There is a pool table and dart boards, and the pub currently has a pool team and two darts teams. Mrs Clarke said she is keen to form another darts team when the new season starts.

The couple are keen to make it a family-friendly establishment.

'We want it to have a nice cosy atmosphere for every one,' Mrs Clarke said.

'It is a new venture. I really want it to take off.'

The Flying Fish has a beer garden and a large field which Mrs Clarke said can be used to hold car boots sales on during the summer months.

The couple are keen to host events and are starting by holding a Burns Night celebration on Saturday.

The family-friendly event will include Scottish food, an appearance from the Watton-based Phoenix Pipes & Drums band and a barbecue.

The pub is open as normal and the Burns Night event starts at 6pm.

The Flying Fish is open Monday to Sunday from 12pm until 12am, except for Wednesday when it opens at 1.30pm.
