A fast growing lottery launched by a Norfolk council could contribute up to £30,000 to charitable causes by the end of the year.

Breckland District Council said they are now selling more than 1,000 lottery tickets each week and if it continues at that rate, it will raise around £30,000 through the year for charitable causes registered as beneficiaries.

The lottery launched on March 31 and so far, 117 players have won prizes ranging from three free tickets to a future lottery draw to £250 cash prizes.

However, no one has managed to match the six consecutive numbers required to claim the £25,000 weekly top prize.

Breckland councillor Paul Claussen said: 'The great thing is, not only are players supporting worthwhile local good causes with every £1 ticket bought, but they are also in with a chance of winning a significant cash prize, so everybody wins.'
