It's fair to say the Rocky Horror audience isn't quite what you're used to seeing at the Theatre Royal – for a start, almost half have come wearing only their underwear.

Audience participation is at the heart of this unashamedly debauched show, and the Norwich crowd didn't disappoint. And nor did the cast.

In one of the reviews of this production I read prior to attending, the author said: 'It's not a show to take your mother to' – I told my Mum this as she sat next to me in the theatre, our fourth time seeing the show together, 'depends on the Mum,' she said, sagely. My 15-year-old agreed.

It's 40 years since Richard O'Brien's rock and roll sci-fi musical with the cross-dressing twist hit the stage and the show is now an institution, with audiences knowing the script as well as the cast.

Oliver Thornton is outstanding as the trans-sexual love machine Frank N Furter. My word he looks good in a basque.

Devilishly flirtatious, he holds the audience in the palm of his hand as he deflowers nerdy couple Brad and Janet who stumble upon his castle on a fittingly dark and stormy night.

Philip Franks is excellent as the narrator, providing mock gravitas to proceedings and dealing ably with audience heckling and my daughter was overjoyed to see her girlhood heroine Dani Harmer (nee Tracy Beaker) as the corrupted Janet.

I think we can safely say that Dani's CBBC past is well and truly back in the closet.

Sam Attwater as Brad, Joel Montague as Eddie and Doctor Scott and Kristian Lavercombe, Abigail Jaye and Ceris Hine as Riff-Raff, Magenta and Columbia respectively were all superb.

Costumes, sets, the band, the lighting – all are spot on.

And I'd like to personally thank Henry Davis who plays Frank's lab-created, gymnastic Adonis, for refraining to wear anything other than skimpy outifts throughout. It was appreciated.

By the end of the show, everyone was on their feet doing the Timewarp – one might say that it's the most fun you can have with your underwear on.

The Rocky Horror Show is at the Theatre Royal until Saturday. Contact the box office for tickets on Norwich 630000.
