Flights to summer and winter destinations have been confirmed for Norwich airport today.

Sun-seekers will be able to fly to Alicante and Malaga all year round from March 2016 and those who want to hit the ski slopes can land in Geneva later that year during the winter months.

Norwich airport owners Regional & City Airports (RCA), owned by the Rigby Group, say seats will be available for booking from early November after the release of Flybe's 2016 summer schedule.

There have also been hints there could be further expansion, with the possibility of adding more route, in the future.

Richard Pace, general manager of Norwich airport, said: 'Ever since Rigby Group acquired Norwich Airport it has been our stated aim to protect existing routes while establishing new ones, and today's announcement underlines that commitment.

'Not only does this partnership secure scheduled holiday flights from Norwich, but it also provides a firm foundation from which to build for future expansion.'

The plans, which sees the return of the flights to Norwich for the first time in almost a decade, also involves significant investment from both Flybe and the RCA.

Sir Peter Rigby, chairman and founder of RCA owners Rigby Group, added: 'I am confident that this announcement, which provides tangible proof of the exciting future facing Norwich, will be just first of many positive developments.'

Earlier this year we reported that a daily flight from Norwich to Charles de Gaulles in Paris is one of four proposed flights put forward by the airport for a £56m government start-up fund.

The other routes include: Norwich to Charles de Gaulles, Norwich to Dublin, Norwich to Exeter and Norwich to Newcastle. The bid is in progress.
