The Swaffham branch of a leading family charity is looking to enlist new trustees to support their work in the area.

Diane Longmuir, one of the trustees at the Home-Start scheme which has been helping families with young children in town for more than eight years, is stepping down as chairman after a long stint with the organisation.

But Esther Wildsmith at Home-Start said: “There is a problem - for some reason the people in and around Swaffham are a little bashful in coming forward to volunteer their services and we are struggling to attract new trustees. Without trustees the scheme will be forced to close as they are an essential part of the scheme, taking care of employment, insurance, premises and legal issues.”

The member said the scheme has recently expanded to cover the Dereham area too.

“This is a very rewarding activity and we would encourage people to offer their help.”
