Valentine’s Day came early to Swaffham when a community group held a retro Valentine dance.

The Swaffham Lions hosted the Valentine Dance in the Swaffham Assembly Rooms on Saturday and managed to raise more than £1,000 for charitable causes.

The ballroom was decorated in traditional Valentine’s Day colours and the packed audience spent the night dancing to music from the 1960’s, performed for free by the west Norfolk band, the Strollers.

The Lions are now preparing for Easter celebrations by distributing Easter baskets to pubs and clubs across Swaffham and the surrounding villages, along with donation sheets with squares which will be sold to raise money for causes supported by the group. The Swaffham Lions have recently given support to a range of causes, including the Royal British Legion, youth groups and Sophie Burke, a young girl who was born with a rare genetic condition.
