PUPILS from a school near Watton have raised hundreds of pounds to help the survivors of the Haiti earthquake.
The youngsters from Caston Primary School raised �763 which was given to the Watton Rotary Club to help pay for Shelter Boxes that cost �490 each and contain a tent and essential equipment for 10 people.
Through street collections and donations the Watton Rotary and Inner Wheel clubs have gathered enough funds so that the Shelter Box organisation can send 12 of its boxes to Haiti. The 12th box will be in the name of Caston Primary School.
Other boxes have been purchased in the name of Carbrooke Primary School, St Mary's Church, Watton, and the Wayland branch of the National Farmers Union.
Richard Akister, president of the Watton Rotary Club, said: 'The people of Watton and Wayland have been magnificent in their generous giving to help the people of Haiti through the Shelter Box scheme, and we in Watton Rotary, helped by our sister club, Inner Wheel, are extremely proud of having been able to co-ordinate local support, so much so that the remit from our small area specifically for Shelter Boxes is one of the highest for any Rotary Club in East Anglia.'
