CADETS from 864 (Marham) DF Air Training Corps have been studying RAF history, but instead of just sitting in the classroom, they have been taking a look at the real thing.

First of all, they visited the Museum at RAF Cosford where they learned that the Cold War had nothing to do with global warming but with two global super powers threatening each other with nuclear weapons for 40 years. They also got to see examples of the Valiant and Victor V-Bombers that were stationed at RAF Marham for many years.

'It was really cool,' said Cadet Robert Cooper from Oxborough, who headed off to the shop to buy an Airfix V-Bomber kit.

The next day, courtesy of RAF Marham Padre, Father James Caulfield, the cadets visited the station history room to give a more local flavour to their studies. Here they saw and handled displays of exhibits dating back to the biplanes of Narborough Aerodrome in 1915, through Marham's wartime history and all the way through to today's fast jet era.

Flt Lt Tony Hall, the unit's commanding officer said: 'These visits really made RAF History come alive for the cadets, making a potentially dry subject fascinating. They really enjoyed themselves.'
