A Saham Toney man has been fined for illegally collecting and storing scrap metal in a private residential car park.

Breckland Council has issued the man with a fixed penalty notice of £300 for operating as an illegal waste carrier, after he was interviewed at the scene in the village by the council's enforcement officers.

Councillor Alison Webb, executive member for housing, health and environment at Breckland Council, said: "The council has a zero tolerance approach towards illegal waste carriers and we will not hesitate in taking direct action. We hope this fine will deter people who may consider doing this in the future."

Breckland Council has advised residents to check when hiring a waste carrier that they have the appropriate Waste Carrier Licence, as they have a legal duty to demonstrate they have disposed of their waste responsibly, otherwise they could also face a fine of up to £400.
