Air cadets from 864 (Watton) Squadron packed the Queens Hall in Watton together with 200 invited guests and parents to celebrate the success of the cadets' and squadron at the annual presentation evening of awards and trophies.

Other guests included the Officer Commanding Norfolk and Suffolk Wing, Wing Commander Tony Hipperson, the Deputy Commandant of the Norfolk Army Cadet Force, Lt Col Dave Myers and members of the Royal Air Forces Association, the Rotary and Civic representation from Watton Town Council.

The evening's events were hosted by the Squadron Commander Flt Lt Michael Edney, and the presentations of awards and trophies were made by the Squadron Honorary President and officer commanding II (AC) Sqn at RAF Marham, Wing Commander John Turner.

The guests were treated to an evening of cadet and Squadron achievements which included the Squadron winning the Lawrence Rees Eagle Trophy as the Best Sqn in Norfolk and Suffolk Wing for the second year running, the Ivor Bartrum Trophy as the Sqn with the Best Duke of Edinburgh award results as well as the Commandant Air Cadets personal commendation for exceptional performance, one of only 28 awarded out of the 1000 squadrons in the ATC. The cadets' major achievements in sport, shooting, flying and gliding were also reported and warmly received by all present. The cadets received a host of Wing and regional Blues, BTEC awards, Duke of Edinburgh awards at all three levels as well as Gliding and Flying Scholarships.

The major award of the evening, the II (Army Co-operation) Sqn Best Cadet of the year trophy and flight in a Tornado GR4 was awarded to Cadet Warrant Officer Daniel Cooper. Daniel has had an good year which included winning the best male sports cadet in Norfolk and Suffolk Wing for the second time in three years, being awarded his Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award and Regional Marksman.

Other trophy winners were as follows, Runner up to cadet of the year - Cadet Jessica Wilkins, The Eagle Trophy for best NCO - Cpl Oliver Moat, Most Improved cadet - Cpl Rachel Fincham, the Wilkinson trophy for the best Junior Cadet - Cadet Emma Robinson. Best Examination results - Cpl Abigail Ulrych, Marksmanship award - Sgt Michael Whitney and the RAF careers Modeling Cup - Cpl Tobias Kirk.
