It has been 50 years since 2nd Swaffham Brownies was launched to give girls a place to learn new skills and make friends.

And now the pack’s current crop of 26 youngsters has celebrated the anniversary in style, and welcomed many former leaders back for a birthday party.

Clare Smith, pack leader, said the girls read a history of the pack and sang traditional songs.

She said: “It was a fabulous celebration completed with a renewal of our guiding promise.

“We were fortunate to be in the presence of many old leaders including Janet Wilson, Bridget Knock, current district commissioner, Tracey Clements, Jackie Strafford and the county commissioner for Norfolk girl guiding Pat Pinnington.”

Other guest included district leaders Laura Faiers, Nicola Dawkins and Charlotte Dawkins as well as local vicar, Rev. Janet Allen.

Ms Smith said: “Many parents also joined in the celebration as well as members of the 2nd Swaffham guides who had once been brownies, two rainbows Olivia Smith and Ava Hosmer, and a representative from Kings Lynn Trefoil Guild.”

Chrissie Brown, another pack leader, officially welcomed everyone to the party, and a birthday cake was made by Margaret and Stephanie Reader.
