A church has brought music to the heart of its community through a new summer concert series.

St Peter & St Paul Church in Swaffham launched its Convivium Concerts this year as part of a wider ambition to become a leading venue for high-quality musical performance.

Jonathan Dodd, director of music at the church, said: "We are aware that we have one of the finest concert spaces in Norfolk, and it has been woefully underused for many years.

"Our Convivium Concerts series is one of the exciting ways we are addressing this - providing high-quality music across the series, with three wonderful performances this year, and five to come in 2027 as we expand our project to make St Peter & St Paul a centre of musical excellence."

The series began in June with a performance by the church's resident choir titled a Celebration of Choral Favourites.

This was followed in July by a concert from the Iceni Consort - a Baroque and early music ensemble.

On the August bank holiday weekend, the Ralph Allwood Singers concluded the series with a concert directed by Ralph Allwood MBE.

Audience members and participants praised the series, describing it as "truly memorable," with one calling it "truly a summer of musical treats".

Aspiring chorister Joe said: "Coming from younger ears and as someone who is just beginning to sing in the choir, I found the concerts truly inspiring.

"Much of the music was unfamiliar to me, but it has opened my ears and mind to something completely new.

"The beautiful music, so fitting in this splendid church, made the setting feel particularly special."

The Convivium Concert series will return in 2027, beginning with a performance by the resident church choir on Saturday, May 1.
