A £2.4m scheme to provide more than a dozen new homes in a Norfolk town has been officially opened.
The Golden Court development, off Beech Close in Swaffham, has been specially designed to provide homes for adults who have care and support needs.
Norfolk County Council provided the money for the 16-home scheme, which will be managed by national supported housing provider Golden Lane Housing, with specialist support provided by Avenues Group.
Construction of the scheme, which consists of 12 apartments and four bungalows, started last summer.
The development forms part of the county council's drive to provide more supported living homes for people with learning disabilities, autism and those with physical disabilities.
The official opening brought together representatives from Golden Lane Housing, Norfolk County Council, Avenues Group, HBV Group and ATEL Design and Build.
Emily Collinson, director of development and growth at Golden Lane Housing, said: “This is about celebrating much more than the completion of a new building.
"It is about celebrating what these homes will make possible for the people who live here.
“Everyone deserves to have a home that feels like their own – a place where they feel safe, have choice and control, and can be part of their community.
"For some of the people moving into Golden Court, this will be their first opportunity to experience that independence."
The county council previously identified that Norfolk was short of 300 specialist supported living housing units for people with learning disabilities, autism and those with physical disabilities.
The Swaffham scheme is one of a number of developments to address that shortage, with similar schemes in other locations, including Norwich, North Walsham and King's Lynn.
Scott Hussey, Reform-led Norfolk County Council's cabinet member for adult social care and public health, said: “Golden Court is the latest example of our commitment to ensuring that residents are able to maintain their independence, while also receiving the best possible support.
Residents who move into these homes will have opportunities to learn new skills, make new friends, and become part of a community.”
The scheme was given the go-ahead by Breckland District Council in 2024, despite 22 letters of representation.
Neighbours had been worried about extra traffic and potential parking problems.
