The owner of a Norfolk salon is giving Santa a run for his money with her generosity this Christmas.
Jenna Deacon, who runs Nails at No.8 in Watton, along with, Rocky, aged nine, and twins Isaac and Bow, both seven, set up a Christmas appeal to make hampers for the elderly this Christmas.
Miss Deacon spent December 22 and 23, along with her three children, delivering 30 handmade hampers to people who live alone or have no visitors at the care homes at Dorrington House and Buckingham Lodge, both in Watton, Thorp House, in Griston and some lone residents in Watton.
“I wanted to teach my children the sense of joy that comes from the gift of giving," the 35-year-old said.
"I used to work in care some time ago and we have helped charities out but wanted to do something a bit more local this year to help out Watton.
“It has been so lovely, my kids made me so proud, they were patient and learned a lot, and helped teach them and makes me feel good. I wanted to show my kids that sometimes giving something can feel just as good as getting something.”
The hampers have been in production since October, with the independent business owner asking for food donations from her clients, people in the village, a trolley in Watton’s Tesco and Cunningham Motors in Thetford who donated cash to put towards hampers.
They confirmed the number of hampers with the care homes in October but after reconfirming just before delivery, sadly some had passed away.
The family then reached out to the Watton community notice board to look for further nominations within the Watton area. Several were then hand-delivered the next day thanks to Facebook messages from the community.
Miss Deacon, who set up her business from her converted garage in 2019, heaped praise on the care home staff which helped them to find residents and hand-deliver them the hampers.
She plans to do the same in 2024.
