An American fast-food chain is eyeing up a disused rest stop on the A47 for its first Norfolk restaurant and drive-through.

In plans submitted to Breckland Council earlier this month, burger brand Wendy's is looking to develop a former truck stop and cafe into a 2,150 sq ft restaurant.

The location - a first for Norfolk - would be located at the A47 Lynn Road roundabout, just outside of Swaffham, at its junction with the A1122 Swaffham Road.

The site was previously home to Avanti Grille before its closure in November last year.

Design documents reveal plans for a total demolition of the existing building and the erection of a new restaurant, landscaping and 21 parking spaces.

The new site would employ 18 part-time staff.

Wendy's UK has been approached for comment.

Michael Clarke, managing director of Wendy's in the UK and Europe, said recently that the group had a "really strong pipeline" of locations over the next few years and has already opened sites in nearby Wisbech, Peterborough and Cambridge.

The franchise specialises in "fast but fresh" burgers, sandwiches, fries and its trademark "Frosty" milkshake.
