It is the season for jam-packed Christmas parties, last-minute shopping sprees and late-night gift-wrapping sessions.

But why not take some time to relax and reset by indulging in a festive afternoon tea?

There are plenty of venues offering them across Norfolk - here are just seven afternoon teas you can enjoy. 

1. The Assembly House

Where: Theatre Street, Norwich, Norfolk, NR2 1RQ

The Assembly House's Nutcracker Afternoon Tea launched on November 8 and will run until January 8. 

Guests are invited to wander through the Land of Sweets, admire the village of igloos at the front of the venue and meet a giant nutcracker.

The Nutcracker menu features festive treats including snowflake blueberry and lemon macarons, a sugar plum fairy peach gateau and turkey and stuffing finger rolls.

The menu can be adapted for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free diets.

It costs £29.50 per adult but guests under 12 can dine for £18.

2. Byfords

Where: 1-3 Shirehall Plain, Holt NR25 6BG

In the run-up to Christmas, Byfords Café will host special FestiviTea High Teas. 

The line-up includes desserts such as white chocolate and peppermint candy cane opera cakes, snowman macarons and a chocolate baileys pot with a shortbread star.

The FestiviTea High Teas will be served between Tuesday, December 12 and Sunday, December 24 from 2pm to 5pm.

It costs £30 per adult and £17.50 per child.

3. The Old Rock Shop Bistro

The Old Rock Shop Bistro's Christmas Afternoon Tea will offer savoury favourites including turkey and stuffing sandwiches, apple and cinnamon scones and seasonal sausage rolls with a cranberry, sausage and onion stuffing.

For dessert, visitors can enjoy Terry's Chocolate Orange brownies, mince pies and a raspberry and lemon shortbread Christmas tree.

Mulled wine and prosecco are available alongside hot and soft drinks.

Guests can book for the teas from December 1 to January 7.

They cost £24.95 per person.

4. Maids Head Hotel

Where: 17 Tombland, Norwich NR3 1LB

The Maids Head Hotel launched its 2023 Christmas afternoon teas on Friday, November 24.

This year's menu features savoury options such as butter roast turkey and bacon sandwiches, brie & cranberry quiches and a red onion jam sausage roll.

The desserts include nutmeg egg custard tarts, white chocolate and amaretto macaroons and hazelnut profiteroles.

The teas cost £26 per person but can be upgraded to include a glass of prosecco for an extra £4.

Children's options are also available.

5. Barnham Broom

Where: Honingham Road, Barnham Broom, Norwich NR9 4DD

The Barnham Broom's festive afternoon tea comes with a range of festive savouries including Norfolk turkey and cranberry sandwiches and a stuffing pinwheel.

On the sweeter side, guests can indulge treats such as orange and cranberry scones, gingerbread cheesecake and peppermint fudge.

The afternoon teas can be upgraded to include a glass of prosecco, champagne or a Christmas cocktail.

Prices start at £23.95 per person.

6. The Norfolk Mead

Where: Church Loke, Coltishall, Norwich NR12 7DN

Enjoy a festive afternoon tea after a long winter walk around the Norfolk Mead grounds.

Between November 27 and December 31, the hotel will serve a selection of afternoon tea classics with a festive twist.

You can expect sandwiches with turkey or mature cheddar and a spiced apple or pear chutney.

If you have a sweet tooth, there are Christmas pudding chocolate brownies, eggnog Irish cream panna cottas and spiced sultana cakes. 

It costs £22 per person but guests can add a glass of mulled wine for £7.25 or a glass of prosecco for £6.75.

7. The Norfolk Farmhouse Retreat

Cranberry and cinnamon scones, chestnut and mushroom filo parcels, gingerbread cupcakes and brie, fig and honey vol au vents are among the treats on offer at the Norfolk Farmhouse Retreat.

The festive afternoon teas will be running from November 27 until January 14.

They cost £59 for two people - and for an extra £20 per person visitors can include a selected 30-minute spa treatment to their trip.
