A decision about plans for a new care home in Swaffham has been deferred.

Breckland councillors were due to consider proposals for a retirement village to be built at Highfield House in Lynn Road on Monday.

But after it was pointed out that a military fuel pipeline runs through the complex it was decided the decision should be postponed until more information about the pipeline was obtained.

The retirement village would consist of a 45-bedroom care home and 13 assisted-living units.

Swaffham Town Council has raised no objections to the plans but doctors in the area are worried about the impact the complex would have on local healthcare provision.

Breckland's planning officers had tipped the plans for approval ahead of Monday's meeting of Breckland's development control committee.
