Crew members from the McDonald's restaurant in Forest Retail Park, Thetford, lived the football dream by playing in one of the UK's finest football stadiums after making it through to the finals of the McDonald's Cup. Thetford Allstars faced 24 other teams from all over the UK at Hampden Park, Scotland's national stadium.

Unfortunately the team from Thetford didn't get their hands on the trophy after losing in the final stages of the tournament. After a tightly contested final, the trophy was won by 'Sleatown' from Leicester.

Although they didn't bring the trophy home this time, the players from Forest Retail Park enjoyed the experience of playing in the famous stadium where Real Madrid won the Champions League in 2002.

Team captain Dean Ellis said: “It was a shame we didn't come home with the trophy, but even though we didn't win the whole team had a fantastic time in Glasgow. Playing at Hampden has given us a real buzz and we'll be back next year to try and get our hands on the trophy.”

Thetford Allstars began their journey to Hampden Park in June after coming through regional heats that saw over 650 teams from across the UK play for their place in Glasgow.

The McDonald's Cup is part of the McDonald's Football in the Community Programme, a nationwide initiative aimed at raising the standards of grass-roots football for players everywhere.

In partnership with The FA, The Scottish FA, The Irish FA and The Welsh Football Trust, McDonald's has trained almost 20,000 coaches since 2002 and sponsors 6,000 local football clubs across the UK.
