A new state-of-the art play park which cost more than £200,000 has opened at RAF Marham.

The Sandringham Avenue Play Park took more than eight months to complete and includes an array of modern equipment which will delight children of all ages.

The park which is situated on the base, was officially opened last week and the event was attended by representatives from the groups who had to fund it, along with an array of eager children who wanted to put it to the test.

Station Commander, Group Captain Phil Osborn, opened the park and he said: “I would like to thank all of those who have participated in this project either by leading the planning and delivery, in particular Flight Sgt Simon Hardwick, who has been a leading player and devoted much of his off duty time to this project.”

He added: “We also take community support very seriously, not just because of the positive impact on morale and retention in the service, but because we genuinely want to make RAF Marham a great place to work and live.”

A number of organisations contributed to the funding of the play park including the RAF Central Fund, Defence Estates Operational Housing, West Norfolk Council and Waste Recycling Group Ltd, managed through the group Waste Recycling Environmental Ltd (WREN).
