Swaffham follow up thumping away win with derby draw

Swaffham Town played twice in the space of four days in midweek and picked up a respectable haul of four points to maintain their solid start to the Thurlow Nunn League Division One campaign.
The Pedlars followed up a convincing 4-0 win at Diss Town with a 2-2 home draw in the local derby with Downham Town on Friday evening.
Nick Castellan, Alex Vincent, Joe Jackson and Matthew Blackford found the net away on Tuesday evening and in reality the visitors could, and maybe should, have been in double figures by the end of a one-sided encounter.
It was a different matter three days later, with visitors Downham taking the lead after 13 minutes.
A nervous period followed until Blake Stangroome restored the balance on 40 minutes, heading home from a Castellan corner to leave the keeper no chance.
The goal of the evening came early in the second half, Alex Vincent scoring from a free-kick 20 yards out with his beautifully struck effort sailing into the top left hand corner.
Downham restored the balance in the 63rd minute and the remainder of the game saw both sides appearing to be setting their sights on not making the mistake to gift the game to the opposition. The Pedlars were unable to capitalise or recreate their performance at Brewers Green Lane and had to settle for a share of the spoils.
On Saturday Swaffham host early Division One pacesetters Woodbridge Town at the Lane (3pm).
The Reserves were unlucky to go down by a single goal at Beccles Caxton and they are on the road again on Saturday at Earsham.
The Under-18s continued their winning start of the season, beating Easton & Otley College 5-3 thanks to a hat-trick from Conor Germaney and further goals from Kieran Bruce and Korben Willis. The win gave them an early lead at the top of the Thurlow Nunn Youth North Division.
On Thursday, they are away to Dereham Town who have themselves got off to a good start to the season.
The fundraising Bank Holiday bike ride took place on Sunday and further information and a report on the activities will follow next week.
