A Norfolk band which has written a song to celebrate the London Olympics will be performing at the torch relay in Norwich this summer.

The Colour features Adam North, from Long Stratton, near Norwich, on guitar, Scott Field, from Hingham, near Wymondham, on the drums, Rob Forder, from East Harling, near Thetford, on bass guitar, Alex Jones, from Watton, who plays the keyboard and guitar, and lead singer James Poole, who grew up in Martham, near Great Yarmouth, but now lives in London.

They started writing London’s Calling in June and it was recorded over two days in November at Fly Studios, Holt.

The band is called The Colour because of the dramatic art performed during their live shows.

Developed in 2004, the art is produced by Scott, 39, whose drum sticks are linked to bags of emulsion paint which is sprayed over a white canvas as he plays the drums.

A video for London’s Calling was filmed at a warehouse in Cambridge in February and can now be seen on the YouTube website and the song is available through iTunes.

As well as performing in front of the former Habitat store in Norwich from 9.30pm on July 4, for the Norwich Olympic torch relay, the band will also be playing at the SCIPMYLO Festival, Hackney Marshes, London.

Scott, a member of the Norfolk Fire Service’s urban search and rescue team in Dereham, said: “It is very exciting. It will be nice to do something from the east representing the Olympics.”

The SCIPMYLO Festival, which is free, will take place between July 27 and August 12 near the Olympic park.
