Thetford slipped to another defeat in Division One of the Norfolk Alliance at the weekend - and are now looking over their shoulders at the teams below them.

After starting the season well Thetford have struggled for form of late and their comprehensive home reverse against Stow was their seventh in 12 games this season.

As a result they are now fourth from bottom in the table - and just 40 points above an improving Lowestoft side in the second relegation position.

That means they could do with a win when they travel to face Norwich A, the side immediately below them in the table, on Saturday (1pm).

Stow took a firm grip on last weekend’s game at Mundford Road when they made 243-8 in their 50 overs. It was a testing target which proved too much for Thetford, who were dismissed for just 139 in reply in the 40th over.

Thetford A lost a high scoring game away at Bradfield A in Division Five on Saturday.

Bradfield batted first on what turned out to be a great batting track and made 275-4 off their 45 overs.

The stand-out performance came from man-of-the-match Zak Wilson, just 15. His controlled bowling brought two wickets and created numerous other chances while he also took two catches.

Thetford’s openers started well, with Tristan Caley (68), Mick Piggott (36) and Mark Fowler (29) keeping the scoreboard turning, but the rate kept climbing.

A quick-fire and aggressive 48 off just 23 balls from Craig Baulch got Thetford back into the game but when he fell the innings tailed off and Thetford ended on a respectable 245-8 off 45 overs.

Thetford A are at home to Ashmanhaugh and Barton Wanderers A on Saturday.

A gamble paid off as Swaffham maintained their good form in Division Two with a 41 run victory over neighbours Downham Town A.

With heavy showers forecast late in the afternoon Swaffham opted to declare after 27.1 overs of a 35-over game following some big hitting from opener Jasper Payne.

He blasted 103 in just 72 balls, with 14 fours and two sixes, to help his side get up to 201-5, a total that was boosted by 50 in 37 balls from Alex Payne. The rain then stayed away as Downham finished on 160-7 in reply.
