Attleborough back with a victory

12:27 22 February 2012

Attleborough Town 2 Mundford 2

Boro welcomed Mundford to the Rec on Saturday after a two week layoff due to the weather.

The game started with both teams looking like they had not played for a while.

The passing play was lacking firstly because players were rusty and secondly because of the weather.

The game was played mainly in the centre of the pitch with neither team retaining the ball.

In patches Boro resembled the team the fans have become familiar with over the last few months.

After an attack 20 minutes in Kane Wetteland found himself dragged down in the box and was awarded a penalty. This was swiftly dispatched by Stevie Wright giving Boro the lead. The game then found itself in the middle off the park again with no real efforts being registered from either team.

Mundford then were awarded a corner a minute from time in the first half which Boro poorly defended resulting in a fine header levelling the score.

Boro came out after half time looking refreshed and playing some more passing football and creating a number of chances.

Fifteen minutes in to the second half Dan Whitman found himself one on one with the Mundford keeper and he finished powerfully in to the top right corner of the net. Boro then saw a number of chances come and go and would pay for this later in the game.

Sean Robinson made some great saves keeping Boro in the lead during phases of the second half. One minute from time disaster struck and after a half clearance Mundford struck from close range levelling the score again.

Not the greatest display from Boro but one that contained flashes of the passing football that has been installed in to the players. Boro travel to Alysham next Saturday for a top of the table clash, manager John Vincent is certain the players now have the bit between their teeth and will come out fighting.

Cricket.

Despite the best efforts of Norwich City only six games were conceded this week – but several matches were shortened to accommodate the lunctime play-off so generally cricket was the winner, writes Mike Ridout.
