Drivers are warned to take care on the roads as temperatures are set to drop.

Norfolk County Council’s highways department will be out gritting roads tonight as the mercury is expected to drop to near freezing conditions.

A Met Office Yellow warning is in force from 6pm on Tuesday evening until 11am on Wednesday morning for rain and snow.

Weather forecaster at Weatherquest Richard Jones said the region was in for a “wintery mix” overnight and into the morning.

He added: “As a weather system moves in from the west over East Anglia it could bring rain. As it crosses into the North Sea more northerly winds and colder air we can expect it to turn to sleet.”

He said while there could be a dusting of sleet and snow, particularly in the west of Norfolk, there is not expected to be any significant accumulations of snow across the region.

Temperatures are expected to drop to 4/5C (40F) dropping to as low as 1C (34F) further west.

Police warned motorists to “drive to arrive” in a message posted on Twitter about the temperature drop.
