World Cup fever is sweeping the nation and Gareth Southgate’s waistcoats have made him a style icon.

And in honour of what has become known as Waistcoat Wednesday, Norman Gay has decided to dig out his wedding waistcoat - from 1966.

The 76-year-old, who married his wife Anita just weeks after England beat West Germany to lift the World Cup, is hoping the waistcoat will act as a good luck charm.

It may not fit him anymore but the waistcoat will be hanging up for tonight’s game against Croatia and the final on Sunday, should England progress.

“I think Southgate is very good,” said Mr Gay who will be watching the game with his wife. “I hope they have a very good game and we shall be watching it.”

Staff at the East Anglian Air Ambulance wore their waistcoats with pride - above their uniforms - in support of the team and Southgate.

And they weren’t the only ones, staff at KLFM, Elveden Estate, and the North and South Norfolk Clinical Commission Group were also sporting their waistcoats.
