For many, the challenge of running just one half marathon is testing enough, but one man from Norfolk has set his sights on completing 12 over the course of a year.

Tim Suthers, from Watton has taken on the gruelling task of completing a half marathon every month for a year in a bid to raise £5,000 for Autism Anglia, a charity close to his and his family’s heart.

First becoming a runner in 2003 after he was diagnosed with Type Two Diabetes, Mr Suthers took up running in a bid to loose weight and improve his health without the use of medication.

But is was only last year, after his four year-old grandson was diagnosed with Autism, that the 57-year-old came up with the idea for the challenge.

Explaining how, after reflecting on his own diagnoses and seeing the support Autism Anglia gave his grandson and family he wanted to give something back to the organisation he said: “When I found out I was Diabetic I discovered I could do something about it and improve my quality of life, but my grandson can’t.

“As far as I’m concerned Autism Anglia are helping young children who are who are not able to help themselves and give them help and guidance they need.”

“Running is the easiest thing for me, I could never jump out of a plane, not I’m not a strong swimmer, I could have done a cycle ride but I felt that running is something I could really do.”

Currently half way through his 12-month challenge and half way to reaching his goal of raising £5,000 Mr Suthers said: “Some of the marathons I have found challenging and others not so challenging and that’s reflected in the times.”

“The goal for me is to raise as much money as I possibly can and at the end to have 12 medals which I can then display. So in 10, 20 years time I can say I achieved this and at the same time raised money for a charity which is helping my grandson.”

Having already completed runs in Essex, Suffolk and St Albans, Mr Suthers next run will place in Leamington Spa to donate to his page visit: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/tim-suthers
