A talented 10 year old from Norfolk has been offered a once in a lifetime opportunity to travel to America - and it’s all thanks to her impressive kickboxing skills.

Bonnie Chamberlin, of Bradenham, near Dereham, is due to compete in the world martial arts games in Orlando, Florida, in September.

The schoolgirl has been kickboxing for more than two years, training twice a week at her local club, Tom’s Kickboxing Academy, run by Tom Oldridge. Mr Oldridge will also be escorting Bonnie on her visit to the states.

The Scarning Primary School pupil said she was “extra excited” about her success.

“I am mostly looking forward to when I come home from America because I can tell everyone how I have done and thank them for their support,” she said.

“I love kickboxing because it allows me to focus on specific techniques and improving my skills.”

Bonnie, who also enjoys art and maths, needs to raise a total of £4,000 for herself and her mum Lorraine Davis to travel to the competition. So far she has raised just over £1,000.

Miss Davis, 43, said: “To see someone who does not have very much come this far, so quickly, and with her determination, is great.

“We have family who are into martial arts so we’ve always had it in the family. She saw it advertised on posters locally and wanted to do it - she has just gone from strength to strength.”

Fundraising so far has included a family friend holding a sponsored hair and beard cut at the Lord Nelson pub in Bradenham, raising more than £400.

Miss Davis added: “The village is behind her 100pc. It’s great to have that community spirit and support.”

Future fundraising events include a static bike ride at Tesco in Dereham on March 11 and a Clairvoyance evening in April. The kickboxing academy will also be doing different fundraisers throughout the year.
