The Swaffham Lions have held an afternoon tea and boules competition to honour a former member of the club.

Robert Pollard was formerly a Swaffham Lion but has since moved to North Carolina, where he is a member of Concord Lions who are twinned with the Swaffham group.

Both Mr Pollard and his wife Trudy travelled over from America to take part in the event organised by David and Bobby Elsom.

20 contestants competed in some closely fought matches in windy conditions and after four rounds, Pam Tallon beat Adrian Adcock 2-1 in the final.

The Swaffham Lions were founded in 1917 and are best known for their charity work for blindness.

They also volunteer for many different kinds of community projects such as caring for the environment, feeding the hungry and aiding seniors and the disabled.
