A Norfolk inspired arts programme aimed at increasing wellbeing and combating loneliness in elderly people has culminated in a musical and movement performance on the north Norfolk coast.

Over the last three months, the Creative Arts East ‘Our Day Out’ groups have been working with professional local artists Glass House Dance and percussionist Les Chappell to create music and movement pieces inspired by the Norfolk landscape.

They visited The Wildlife Trust Centre in Cley back in July to gather sights and sounds, which they have been using as inspiration in their fortnightly sessions.

At a special sharing event on October 31, the participants returned to Cley to perform the movement and music they had created.

Sally, one of the participants from Wells, said: “I felt that life was shutting me in the house. I have very few friends left so it’s really nice to meet people who have the same interests and like coming together to share in music and dance.”

Creative Arts East has groups across Norfolk and until January the Attleborough, Dereham and Thetford groups will be taking part in Egyptian belly dancing workshops and the Watton, Wells and North Walsham groups will be song-writing and music-making.
