A McDonald’s store near a town centre has been given a “digital makeover”, creating 15 new jobs.

The changes at the branch of the fast food chain on Thetford’s Forest Retail Park mean customers can now browse menus and order from four self-service kiosks.

“These changes have been designed with changing customer needs in mind and the dedicated dining room hosts ensure the process is as quick and easy as possible,” a McDonald’s spokesman said.

Kenny Russell has been a franchisee in Norfolk for 16 years. He owns and operates 10 restaurants in the area, including the one at Forest Retail Park.

He said: “These changes have been designed to make our customers’ experience as positive as possible and the new technology benefits everyone – whether that’s providing people with a chance to get to grips with using a tablet in a relaxed environment, or providing mums with a quick and easy way of ordering their food.

“As a local businessman, I’m very keen to invest in my community so it’s great to be able to bring an extra boost to the economy here in Thetford.”

The introduction of these changes also means that staff at McDonald’s are able to widen their skillset.

More workers are able to be in front of the counter, serving customers and helping them navigate the new digital menu boards for the first time ever.

Mr Russell added: “Having already seen these changes in my other restaurants, I have been overwhelmed with the positive response from my customers and employees.

“I’ve been a franchisee for more than 16 years and have seen the McDonald’s experience transform in this time. Our restaurants are a great leveller and are able to suit the needs of people from any background who want to come in grab a bite to eat or drink and enjoy the atmosphere these changes have created.

“I’m confident that this new look restaurant at Forest Retail Park will be a welcome addition to the area and I’m looking forward to welcoming our customers in to show off the changes.”
