The image of six medals proudly hung around the athlete’s neck is reminiscent of iconic seven-time Olympic swimming champion Mark Spitz.
Now Swaffham’s own young superstar Kane Robinson Willis has received a framed photo to commemorate his own successes at the town’s Olympic-themed carnival on Sunday July 15.
Mayor Terry Jennison was so impressed with the 13 year old’s gold, three silver and two bronze medals that she visited him during his last week at Swaffham Hamond’s High School to present him with the memento.
Kane excelled in events ranging from the carrot javelin to the wheelbarrow race, and said that although he did not enjoy sport at school, his success was “easy”.
He said: “I was very happy. My friends were jealous because I won more than them and they usually win more than me.”
Carnival chair Dennis Tallon said: “It’s a real positive for a young lad at school who has been able to demonstrate that he can achieve. What he has done is to really succeed at the carnival and be the most successful person there.”
