Lest we forget - restoration of Swaffham war memorial in time for centenary celebrations

Swaffham’s war memorial is getting spruced up in time for the town’s centenary celebrations next year to mark the end of the First World War.

Infrastructure and construction company Balfour Beatty, in partnership with Travis Perkins, is repairing and replacing the brickwork around the memorial, on behalf of the town council, as part of its ongoing commitment to communities.

Town clerk Richard Bishop said the town council was “extremely grateful” to the companies for their fantastic support on the project.

He said: “This builds on the excellent work carried out recently by our ground staff to thoroughly clean the Memorial, paint the railings and to repaint the names.

“We hope it will be fully restored now following this final boost in time for 2018.”

The Memorial bears the names of 90 Swaffham men who fell in the First World War and 25 from the Second World War.
