Little Farm, a four-bedroom property in Great Fransham, between Dereham and Swaffham, is owned by Andy Prentice from Downham Market and won gold in the ‘best in East Anglia’ category in the Sykes Gems awards, run by Sykes Holiday Cottages.

Andy set out to renovate a derelict outbuilding on his farm in 2016 to make extra income for his retirement and used his skills as a builder to completely transform the farm house, which had no windows or plumbing, into an award-winning holiday let.

Little Farm owner, Andy Prentice said: “I’m so pleased Little Barn has been named as the best holiday home in East Anglia as there’s definitely some tough competition.

“I spent the best part of 18 months turning it into what you see today, so this award makes all the hard work worth it.

“Holiday letting is an interesting experience and something completely different to what I’m used to.

I’ve learnt that first impressions are the most important thing when it comes to making yours guests happy, like keeping the garden tidy and giving a friendly welcome. It’s these personal touches that keep people coming back.”

The Sykes Gems celebrate the best in holiday cottage accommodation across the UK and are judged by a panel of industry experts including The Sun’s travel editor, Jacob Lewis.

Now in its second year, the awards received thousands of entries from all corners of the country.

Judges were impressed by the style and facilities on offer at Little Farm, along with its occupancy rate and guest feedback on cleanliness, comfort, location and value for money.

Graham Donoghue, CEO at Sykes Holiday Cottages, added: “I’ve been impressed by this year’s entries, with more of our owners across the county, and country, getting involved.

“The winners really do represent the best holiday let accommodation there is out there so it’s great to recognise and reward everyone’s efforts.”
