11 flood alerts remain in place for Norfolk and Waveney as Storm Eleanor hits region

Flood alerts are still in place across Norfolk and Waveney as Storm Eleanor continues to batter the region.

The fifth-named storm of the year has caused disruption across East Anglia, bringing down trees, causing power cuts and disrupting rail travel.

A Met Office weather warning for strong remains in place until 7pm and there are still 11 flood alerts in place in Norfolk and Waveney. There are:

• The Hundred Foot Washes;

• The Little Ouse and River Thet;

• The River Waveney from Diss and the River Dove to Ellingham, including Bungay;

• The Rivers Blyth and Walpole and Chediston, Bramfield and Wrentham watercourses;

• The Suffolk Coast at Southwold;

• The tidal River Waveney from Ellingham to Breydon Water;

• The tidal River Yare, from Thorpe St Andrew to Breydon Water;

• The tidal Rivers Bure, Ant and Thurne;

• The River Yare at Norwich, from Cringleford to Trowse Newton;

• The River Wensum from New Costessey to Thorpe Bridge at Norwich;

• The Rivers Tud and Wensum from Fakenham to Costessey, including Wendling Beck.

Richard Jones, a forecaster at UEA-based Weatherquest, said the maximum wind gust recorded in Norfolk last night was 66mph at Marham in west Norfolk.

“Generally through the afternoon and by this evening’s rush hour we should see the wind’s ease, but it will still be blustery with wind gusts of up to 35 to 40mph,” he added.
