Firefighters tackled a blaze in a cell at Wayland Prison in Griston, near Watton, this afternoon.
The fire broke out just after 2.20pm and crews from Watton and Hingham who were called left the scene just before 2.50pm.
Paramedics and the police were not called and no-one was injured according to a Norfolk Fire Service spokesman.
He added it is not known if the fire was deliberate or accidental.
