A Norfolk church is staging a production which combines the classic Dickens tale A Christmas Carol with the story of Jesus' birth.

Scrooge Reworked is being put on by the Christmas Alive cast and crew at the Fountain of Life Church in Ashill, near Watton.

Rachel Kehoe has created the adaptation, which is described as heart-warming and thought-provoking.

Ebeneezer Scrooge, the mean old money-lender, grumbles and gripes his way through life, complaining that "life’s not fair."

Scrooge is visited by the ghost of his business partner, Jacob Marley (played by a life-size puppet), who warns of what will happen if Scrooge doesn’t change his ways.

Throughout the play, Scrooge is guided through the past, present and things yet to come, by the Holy spirit, who has come to offer a chance of redemption.

Along the way Scrooge meets the baby Jesus and his parents, as well as younger versions of himself and other characters from his past.

Rachel said; "This not to be missed, festive and atmospheric production, is steeped in hearty humour and catchy songs, puppetry and an immersive snow ball fight that will make you feel as though you’ve really been in frosty combat.

"You will leave with a warm glow and a nostalgia for Christmases past; Scrooge Reworked will surely prepare hearts for a kind, generous and happy Christmas."

Between the matinee and evening performance, people can enjoy a fully immersive Nativity village.

Visitors can wander through the atmospheric village streets and enjoy the sights, aromas and flavours of ancient Bethlehem.

There will be rustic wooden stalls, manned by costumed characters, where people can try basket weaving and bread-making, pottery and dancing.
